We know that it’s important for teachers to continually engage in professional learning opportunities. It’s a way to stay connected to current research, to connect and learn with/from our colleagues, and to hone particular skills to create the best possible learning environments for our students. Some educators have told me that they prefer engaging in professional learning in the summer. There's a lot of variety for pro-d during the summer at UBC. For those not wanting to jump into a MEd just yet, there are also Diploma and Certificate programs: http://pdce.educ.ubc.ca/diplomas-certificates/. These can increase expertise in a chosen specialization. As one example, the Kindergarten Instruction Certificate provides a 15 credit option to learn more about the ECE context. Great question! Many of our programs are offered online or take place face-to-face in school districts. For instance, the MEd in Home Economics Education (HEE3) is a fully online program, with the next cohort starting in September 2015. This is a part time MEd that can teachers can pursue while they are teaching. Interested participants can take part in one of two info session to learn more about this option – these are scheduled for Dec. 9th and Jan. 15th.
